OCT 2013

I want to beat a drum

Because I love my country Nigeria;

Apologies if the vibrations

Echo “muddy” sounds;

I want to throw “stones”

Because I love my country Nigeria;

Apologies if the stones

Hit already bruised flesh.

I’m in a trance…

I find myself in Mercyville

Omoluabi reigns righteously

The people rejoice;

I travel the treasure groves

Of abundance in Mercyville,

Young and old villagers

Living in self-made paradise;

Children playing on streets

Paved with refined black gold

Tourists gawking at the beauty

Of my dreamland.

Breaking news!

Omoluabi answers

The ultimate call

The people wear long faces.

Suddenly, I wake up

I find myself

In yet another village;

Young and old living in self-made Armageddon

Children wallowing in black muck of poverty,

Spillage from unrefined black gold

Repulsive enough

To drive off tourists.

Breaking news!

The ruler answers

The ultimate call

The people break into wild jubilation

Risk triggers!

Advance warning signals!

“A word is enough for the wise”

So say the elders!
